In 1937, the Marijuana Tax Act was enacted. This act effectively prohibited the production, sale, and use of cannabis in the United States. The Agricultural Act of 2014 (the 2014 Farm Bill) revived industrial hemp production through State pilot programs in the United States. In 2018, a new Farm Bill (Agricultural Improvement Act of 2018) came into effect. This act decriminalized hemp production at the federal level. The USDA introduced a Final Rule for hemp testing laboratories on January 19, 2021, that became effective from March 22, 2021.
