Abstract: Environmental testing laboratories are of paramount significance because they help in determining the quality of the environment and controlling pollution before it reaches alarming levels. The data provided by environmental testing laboratories helps regulatory agencies, such as the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), in developing policies and regulatory guidelines and in supporting their endeavor to safeguard public health and the environment. Environmental testing laboratories provide an array of testing services including analysis of soil, sediment, water, air, gas, biota, industrial hygiene, and radiochemistry. Some of the major environmental tests are outlined in Table 1.
