Abstract: The legalization of recreational and medical cannabis poses several challenges for cannabis testing laboratories. Many US states have mandated lab verified testing results for potency and for a wide range of contaminants, heavy metals, toxins, to safeguard public health. For example, California has legalized the recreational use of cannabis in January 2018. The legalization requires cannabis testing laboratories to perform the test for heavy metals, such as Lead, Arsenic, Mercury, Cadmium, along with other toxins. The onus of public safety lies in the hands of cannabis testing laboratories. Hence, it is important to ensure that laboratories analyzing cannabis products generate reliable and reproducible data. Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QC) practices serve as a backbone of analytical cannabis testing laboratories. They must run Quality Control (QC) processes to support laboratory test results and to ensure that the test results are reproducible, reliable, and defensible.
